The spring semester is rapidly approaching the conclusion, which means the University of Dayton senior class of 2023 is getting ready to graduate May 7.
It is an exciting time for each student’s academic career as graduation is the ultimate goal of any college pupil. Although it can be exciting, it can also be a saddening experience for students as they are leaving behind the institution they called home for the past four years.
“I’m excited for what comes next because I do have a plan for after graduation,” Megan Pierce, 22, of Mason, Ohio, said, “but I’m definitely going to miss being on campus and the environment. I won’t miss the homework though.”
Students have mixed feelings about graduating as it means a new chapter of their life is opening as the last one just closed. For Brandon Weise, 22, of Cleveland, he is feeling both excitement and anxiety as he prepares to walk across the stage.
“I say it’s a mixture of the two but it’s leaning a lot more towards excitement obviously. Moving to a new city, having my own apartment and being able to make it mine is a huge step for me. The anxiety comes from budgeting because I obviously don’t have to pay too many bills now. Then there’s just how I’ll fit into my new job because you never really know.”
Although there is a mixture of anxiety and excitement towards leaving UD and entering the professional stage of his life, Weise stressed that everybody has to hope for the best no matter what they do. This advice and mindset is mutual as Pierce shares a similar feeling.
“Just some actual adult activities you have to do, like taxes and car payments, there are some things I’m definitely a little bit nervous about, but I think I’m excited for it more than anything.”
